As for the videography, it understands what we need to see, and never calls attention to itself. To me, no other ballerina is comparable to Ulyana Lopatkina.
This is a wonderful production. The orchestra is great, the conductor is highly regarded by all musicians, the venue is opulent, and the ballet company is the largest and best trained in the world.

This serves above all as a fine record of the unique presence of Ulyana Lopatkina, and presence isn't all she offers, by a long shot. I found it painful to watch a dancing skeleton! I have owned this work for 5 years and have felt increasingly guilty for not saying something about it. In 1995 Ulyana became a principal dancer of the Mariinsky Theatre. I feel that I have to write this review because this is one of the most beautiful Blu-ray discs I have seen, both for technical reasons and because of the very high quality of performance and production served up by the Mariinsky Ballet.
