Steadiness and dependability define the Sheaffer 300 fountain pen.

It skips so badly that I can't write legibly with it. Well it's not as great a construction as a Waterman but for $30 it's a steal! The fine point was more temperamental out of the box then my medium and bold nibs'. It always starts, always, and keeps up with long-term writing just fine, not going dry one bit. This pen is my oldest one. But the love for fountain pens isn’t rational. I purchased the Sheaffer 330 Glossy Black, Chrome Plate Trim, fine point fountain pen. The best endorsement if the Sheaffer 300 is that it was the pen I reflexively reached for when I wanted to write, and it’s the pen that I always carried with me whenever possible. All are medium.The line is different, one of them is very thick another one is smaller.A good review! I should comment that the brushed chrome version has all the good qualities of the gloss black pen and is about half the price. When it first arried it arrived in the usual Sheaffer gift box Sheaffer pens come in - a very nice box and I did use it for storing the pen when I wasn’t using it but have since grown my collection and now store them all in a display case so the box is not effectively useless. It has some nice decoration but is overall not an overly flashy nib, just tasteful, solid, and well made!The nib is quite smooth, the type that is smooth but has clear feedback that I find very satisfying to use. Pens, especially fountain pens, mean so much more than their function. Should it be a scientific approach, with a detailed analysis of the pros and cons of each writing instrument, along with a detailed spreadsheet giving dimensions down to the thousands of an inch using a precision digital micrometer? So there we have it, the Sheaffer 300. Since the pen is long, uncapped could be nice for those with smaller hands, thus reducing some of the weight.
