I also just noticed that the nib does not have a hole in it, but just a circle shape. it seems pretty stuck in there, also my varsity is extremely leaky, and I have no idea why, do you have any idea?The first time it's always stiff but then it loosens up.

I got my first one in college when I got bored taking notes with ballpoints and pencils. Heh, I even bought the epoxy :) In the end I figured that the Pilot has plenty of capacity anyway, why bother.Nice!

I wonder if they changed something in the pen design that prevents it from being taken apart?

Did you have to use alcohol or anything else to get the label off?That's my question, too. Apparently the best - and easiest - method is to use nail polish remover. This is my first fountain pen and so far I really like it. Any suggestions? It should be seated below the surface of the barrel when you’re finished.The ink should start flowing fairly quickly.

I’m wondering if all of the bad stuff in the ink evaporated over the 60 years it was sitting around, or maybe the modern plastics stand up to it better? You should feel it start to move, so it shouldn’t pop out unexpectedly.I also like to use something to grab the nib with. I'm glad that the type of ink does not really matter, so I'll just pick the colours that I like best. The Pilot Varsity is sold as a disposable fountain pen, but it seems like such a shame to throw one away once you’re done with it. Have not attempted to refill one yet. Instead, you’ll have to fill it with some sort of dropper or syringe.

I discovered several different methods that people use, but this seemed the best. Since it’s not meant to be refilled, the Pilot Varsity doesn’t have a filling mechanism. I DID manage to get it all reassembled, but I don’t trust it to remain secure and water-tight….so I’ve decided to use that refilled disposable SOLELY as a pen that sits in my desk tray, and never travels. :)That's pretty awesome! I'm guessing its because the feed already feeds the ink past that point, but I don't know.I'm glad I could help. I just tried this and it worked like a charm. I hope that way I’ll avoid a really big hemorrhage that could really ruin my day, and lots of other things too.
